cuthatcard
Been using this HSBC card selector for a couple of months as I have been tryin to repair and it has always refered me to the secured orchard. Last week it refered me for the HSBC CC. Well, I applied, saw the hard on EX and have went to their check application status for the last several days and received the under review, will notify in 10-14 days. Is this typical? EX score is mid 580's after gaining 30 points over 2 months. This is FICO as of this week. What chance, if any, would you think I have of getting this? Need a CC, have 2 store cards, 1 -10 yrs of age no lates etc. 1 recent, CJ 1500 CL.basicaly, was wondering about the HSBC referring me to their card instead of the Orchard. VonAngel (aka EarthAngel)
The "selector" is just a recommendation after making a soft pull of your report. It isn't a guarantee that you're going to get the card or that you won't get the card. It does however mean that they like your credit a little better than they did a month ago. I received an instant approval for my HSBC Mastercard (which I cancelled), but the "10-14 days" reply is also common w/ them. Give them a call to find out a more up-to-date status. cuthatcard
I called HSBC this morning, said I needed a telephone number up-date. She put me on hold, came back on and said I would get the card in a few days. They had already deducted the $19.00 processing fee from my Bank last week. I forgot to ask about the credit line. So guess I'll wait and see. This is my 1st application for a CC since I began Credit Repair, did apply for and receive a gas card, was denied onthe one and asked for reconsideration. Got rid of some bads before I ever applied, so I guess that helped. Follow advice here and it does work. Also, does anyone know which CRA's HSBC reports to? justgettingstarted
I have a MC through HSBC/Orchard and it reports to all 3.
Fizzle1979
I have a HSBC Platium and they report to all three CRA's for me also. I also found out for me, that they report the amount that is on your credit card at the end of the month...regardless when the billing cycle ends. So you might want to call them and find how when it would be for you. I thought as long as I had the balance at zero at the end of the billing cycle they would report zero...I was wrong. direred
Yeah, they report at the end of the month for everyone, basically.
ctnmkp
Okay, LNY, Dire, Earth....I need ADVICE! I have been receiving numerous HSBC card offers lately. I have an Orchard (with a $600 limit) and have had it since Dec. 2005. It is my lowest limit card. I took the bait and got approved today for an HSBC Platinum Mastercard with a $3800 limit. WAHOO! Since my first credit card (Orchard) in 12/2005, I have gotten a USAA with a $2000 limit and a few other nice limit cards. The highest limit I have is $4500. The advice: I want to close my Orchard, BUT it's the card I have had the longest and have the longest history with...16 months. I do have another card I have had a year with...Should I close the Orchard now that I have the HSBC? Tell me what to do!!!!
direred
If it were a 5-year-old card, I'd keep it until the new card turns a year old.On the other hand -- since you have other cards and the Orchard isn't that old, I'd just close it. ctnmkp
Thank you Dire! That's exactly what I needed to hear. I am going to call now and cancel Orchard. Just one step closer to prime-land now:). Thanks again! You rock!
ctnmkp
Okay...I called and cancelled my Orchard. Gawsh that felt good! When I called the first fella said, "Oh, I am so sorry to hear that," upon me telling him I would like to cancel. He asked why. I told him I had obtained higher limit cards and the limit was low, blah blah blah, ad nauseum. He gets the dirt from me and then connects me to an "account manager."This fella gets on there, says the EXACT SAME THING (they must have a script)...."Oh, I am so sorry to hear that." (word for word). I explain to him the same thing I told the first guy, "I obtained cards with higher limits, etc." and he then tells me that he has great news!!!! He has offered to increase my credit limit with NO CREDIT CHECK by $100 making the new credit line $700! I tell him no thanks to please close it. He truly sounded dejected. I am slowly coming out of sub-prime land and it feels really good. It's been so long and you work so hard, that any little step up feels so nice. I know everyone knows that b/c we all work hard at the same thing here. Nice to have this board to get sound advice from. Thanks again everyone!EDIT: Crap! I just realized I hijacked this thread! I am soooo sorry...my excitement got the best of me! YIKES!

kksh
I'm either confused or in sub-sub-prime condition. I received 2 pre-approved invitations, one from Orchard and one from HSBC. The fine print read something to the effect that I would receive a $200-300 credit limit. Then I read about the fees which would be deducted from and totaled about 75% of the limit. I couldn't help but think of a bunch of compromised people like myself signing up for that crap and wrote "IS THIS A JOKE OR A SCAM?" on the apps. I haven't mailed them yet. Am I just nut's? direred
Usually Orchard isn't that bad with fees -- have you tried the card selector to see what fees you'd qualify for?
creditmess
I am canceling both of my Orchard cards this week. I had these cards for a while, they actually called me with an offer for these! I got the cards, I was never late, always paid it off... then I get a letter saying that "Based on your history with us, we are increasing your APR!" I was fuming!!! I called them up at the number listed in the notice and asked them why are they increasing my APR when I was never ever ever late with them! They really didn't have a good explanation and wouldn't budge at all!So I am calling them today to cancel both of them. I have too many cards already. Plus, orchards are just 500 limit each...Edit: I just checked the rates on both of my Orchard cards... both at 30% LOL!!!!! It's a shame that they won't budge...I will play with them on the phone a little... asking if they would come down in APR.. if they give me grief, I will just say :"OK, close both of my accounts then"
