I have a NSF Check from Tops from 2001. I received my first message today. Tops is offically closed. Can they still collect? I think it is past SOL anyways but wanted to ask.

They can "attempt to collect" until hell freezes over, it doesn't mean they are getting it though.

Check your states requirements on SOL for this type of debt.

If this debt is beyond SOL, fire them off a letter stating that this matter is beyond statute of limitations and should they wish to pursue this matter further, you will use that as your "absolute defense."

Or, you could request validation of this account and their right to collect upon it.

Another 2 yrs and this puppy will fall off of your CR's. Keep in mind, the older a debt gets...the less impact it has on your credit.
