Disputed info

I contested information on credit report and it came back as "verified".

I sent a certified letter to creditor that had negative info posted on my credit report. Their response was they sold account .... contact new account owner to clear information.

My way of thinking is that they are responsible for the information that they are attributed as having reported and that they have "verified".

Am I off base here?

Sorry about that ... it was a car loan with Mitsubishi and they had late payment activity reported. I did pay late twice 30+ but they had reports of 60+ on Equifax. Account was listed as closed, paid with zero balance. I was trying to get the late pay history removed from my credit report.

Hope that helps and thank you for your advice!

They are required to report the accurate data. However, you can dispute the listing with the CRA's saying that you do not ever recall being 60 days late. Is that what you disputed. Since you would be trading an only 30 instead of 60 days, I don't think your buying much. If the trading line is 3-4 years of paying on time with only 1 or 2 late pays, it helps you more than hampers. I've lost trade lines because the CRA deleted it because I disputed some late pays. In my case it didn't hurt or help my FICO score. But it depends on what the rest of your CRA reports look like if the same situation applies.

I would try sometime later to use the never late route.
