dlfok
Background here.... main question below in bold...Ok so I was travelling to a different state and opened up a department store CC to get their discount. I never received a statement from them and promptly forgot about the purchase.Six months later I get a phone call asking about this purchase. Apparently they had the wrong address and want a new one. They can't even tell me how much I owe or when the purchase was made but when I figure it out, I requested that they send me a statement so I can pay and also request that no report be made to the CRAs since it was an honest mistake. When I get their statement I promptly pay it thinking everything will be fine.Lo and behold, I get denied for a credit card a month later. I was also looking into purchasing a home for the first time. Well, now I'm screwed.I already paid them but now I'm stuck with a bad credit report. I disputed with EX but it came back verified and now I've sent a couple of letters to the department store credit department but they wrote back saying they were "unable to remove the derogatory history".Is there anything else I can do? It sucks that I have this black mark for what seems to me to be a simple mistake. Thanks in advance for the help!
Swolf
I would use the 1-2 punch on this to see what will happen. Send the "DV letter" CMRRR, when you get the green card back Dispute with the CRA's and see what happens. If that doesn't work you could try a "Goodwill Letter" and hope that works. Hope this helps
stancil1
Sending a DV to an original creditor probably won't work, but you can place it in dispute by requesting it to be verified. I would start out by stating that you know nothing of the account so that you leave room for future disputes. Send your request by way of CMRRR. As soon as you get your greenie back, dispute it with all 3 CRAs. Also, check and make sure that it is being reported the same on all 3. At this point, if it's obvious that a GW letter isn't going to work, your best bet is to catch them on as many violations as you can. Get 3 or 4 and then send an ITS.D
