Old Dispute Letters question....

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I was a member here a few years ago and was very successful at getting alot of things deleted from our credit reports. However, did not get everything off and kind of dropped the ball.

Anyway, my question is this, I sent dispute letters in to all 3 CRAs and stated on several accounts that there should be no late payments, "never late".

This worked on one (a big one, I might add!) but not a few other smaller ones. I want to just dispute as "not mine" now. Can I do that? Do they have copies of my previous letters that state that I only dispute the lates??

What do I do now??

Also, anything anyone can think of that might have changed in the last 3 years that I might need to know??

Oh, and what is the time period before something is supposed to no longer be on a credit report? I'm in Virginia. 7, 10 years??

Are they supposed to, by law, remove these items from the report?

And, I thought it was from date of last activity but now I'm reading that's not correct??

I have several that were opened, for example, 9-97, last activity of 12-97 and 2-98.

Thanks for any help! I am soooo rusty and was so on top of all this and now I'm lost and relearning again.:?

Welcome back! Yep, lots of things have changed...the FDCPA has been modified a bit, and the FCRA added. You need to read up on all of that...

Time periods...remember there are two. The SOL is a state by state thing... check your VA statues for that...the date on which things fall off your reports is something different (FOD) and is measured from the date of first delinquency (DOFD), which is the date on which the account first went delinquent and was never brought current. The FOD should be 7 or 7-1/2 years after the DOFD. (Unless we're talking about judgements, which stay for 10 years).

no, no judgments. So, I can demand that they remove the ones from 97-97 in the above post??

Also, anyone know the answer to this......

They probably don't have copies of your letters, but there is undoubtedly a mark in their computer records that indicates what you've already disputed.

If these carry a DOFD from 97/98 then you could dispute them as "past reporting period"...
