VidaB
Hello ALL I am not too quick to post questions. I have found that most answers are alread here. I am hoping I have not missed this one. I have a quick question. I have a discover card that is being reported on my CR times. Yes, 1 card.In the negative info section it is being reported by Discover and Credigy Receivables. Here is the report. Oddly enough, Credigy Recv. is only reporting for the amount charged. The other CA has added interest and fees out the butt.DISCOVER FIN SVCS LLC Status: Account charged off/Past due 180 days. $1,852 written off. Status Details: This account is scheduled to continue on record until Oct 2008. This item was verified on Apr 2007 and remained unchanged. The other CA reporting this TL has it listed as an "account in good standing". Here it is:PROVIDIAN FINANCIAL Status: Transferred, closed. Date Opened: 09/2002 Type: Revolving Credit Limit: NA Date of Status: 05/2003 Terms: NA High Balance: $1,852 Reported Since: 05/2003 Monthly Payment: $0 Recent Balance: NA Last Reported Date: 05/2003 Responsibility: Individual Recent Payment: NA Your Statement: NA Creditor's Statement: Purchased by another lender. Okay here is my question. I have disputed the accounts online: Discover has verified the account. Credigy Recv is still being investigated. I didn't bother to dispute the Providian TL because it is listed under accounts in good standing. It is a collection, what can be good about that. I also have an old orchard - HSBC card showing under accounts in good standing, what is up with that? I am ready to DV Discover bc, they have verified. What do I do about the other 2 TLs. Am I thinking correctly as far as DV discover, wait to see what Credigy says, & dispute Providian (even though it is under positive).Thank you for reading & any advice is greatly appreciated,VidaB
kevin3344
There is no need to DV Providian, it is reporting "paid/closed". I would certainly DV Credigy. I wouldn't worry about the "recent payment" information, from the dates you've provided it more than likely is several years old.
VidaB
Thanks for taking the time to read all of that and respond. So, since the Providian TL is showing "paid/closed", that is a good thing?
answer2prayer
Hi VidaB, I too am a newbie here so I probably won't be of much help but from what I can tell from what you posted, I believe:obviouslyDiscover is your OCthey sold the acct toProvidian Financial was the CA collecting for Discoverstates in status it was transferred/closed and in creditors commentspurchased by another lenderwhich would beCredigy Receivables(I've of course assumed this due to the dates, if they are currently reporting)Discover is reporting correctly with a $0 balance for a written off acct. Providian is reporting balance as n/a for a transferred/closed acctWhat is not clear is why Credigy status is showing paid/closed collection? also it does show balance as n/a but it shows $741 as the credit limit (could that be what they bought the acct for or was that your original balance due and the other $1,852 that Discover and Providian are showing as your high balance that was written off was $741 bal. plus interest/fees???) From your post you seem to be confused or asking about 1 card (Discover) being reported on your CR by different people. This is definitely possible and legal. Discover reports it, then the CA they hire reports it and then if they sell it to another CA/JDB they can report it and if the JDB hires a CA to collect it they can report it, then if they end up selling it another JDB can report it, etc. etc. etc......yes seems crazy and illegal but unfortunately, it is not!!!I believe that before anyone can give you any advise as to what to do next is first we need to know what exactly you are wanting to do? as for me, I'm not quite sure? you did state in your post that the "other CA has added interest and fees out the butt"....what other CA is that? I don't see that?If you are disputing Discover and Credigy, don't understand why you are not disputing Providian too, they are all the same acct?Ok, through with my ramblings Hope some of the more experienced can jump in and help here!Good luck! kevin3344
I would focus my efforts on those items that are definitely derogatory, like Credigy. Credit repair is a marathon, not a sprint, and you don't want to get burned out challenging TLs that really don't make a difference. Let's say you get it removed, your score might go down! Unless it's definitely derogatory like a collection account, I would leave it alone for now. I also have an old orchard - HSBC card showing under accounts in good standing, what is up with that?Same thing goes for these accounts.
keepitcomin
I was in a similar situation with Discover Fin Svcs and Credigy Receivables. However, the original account with Discover was not mine (it was a fraudulant account). I disputed both tradelines til I was blue in the face until it occurred to me to just go to Discover and explain the situation. They researched the account and, after I provided proof that I'd never signed to establish an account with them, promptly removed it from my credit files. Credigy is another story. I think the other posters are right. I would focus on that Credigy tradeline. I'm in a situation in which I'll have to take Credigy to court to get this straighten out. They're still reporting this collection on a fraudulant account after I provided them that same evidence that I showed Discover to get them to realize the account was fraudulant and remove it. They've even re-aged the account for good measure because I continuously disputed the tradeline. The tradeline only appears on my Experian credit report now, but it shouldn't show on any of them. The point is, if you're going to dispute Credigy, just know that it will be extremely difficult to get the tradelines removed because it seems like Credigy just verifies whatever the CBs ask for verification on (especially from Experian) regardless of whether it's actually verifiable. If you're ready to dig in, then go for it. But I did notice that the tradeline is scheduled to drop of in a little over a year. If Credigy can reage my account (and it's fraudulant), then they can do the same to you just to make the tradeline last longer than the year and some change that it's supposed to. If they do, you can take them to court for violating the FDCPA. Hope this helps.
