tazunemono
I have a Chevron account that was closed in 2002 due to non-payment. I paid the $186 I owed on it over 2 years ago, however the 'Status' of the entry in my credit file '120 days past due collections account' has never been changed. The 'Description' field indicated ' Paid collection'. My question is, is this 'Status' affecting my credit score? Should these fields be switched? I mean, if I was asked "what's the status of this account" it would seem to be 'paid collection', rather than the other...it's NOT past due or in collections right now! Am i missing something or should I contact Chevron? How long until this information falls off my reports? It's nearly 5 years old!
stancil1
Write a letter to them requesting verification of this account by way of CMRRR. Once they've signed for it, dispute the trade line. The fact of the matter is that the TL is over 3 yrs old and isn't effecting your credit scores that much anyway. Chances are that they no longer have hard physical evidence of the account anyway. If you can get them to violate several times and then present them with prima facie evidence, they'll most likely delete.
