Hi All

Im not sure what to do. See my wife paid for an old Debt a while back using one of those Credit Fixing Agencys. Anyway one of her Debts was Discover 500 Limit. Anyway she was told that it was paid threw that agency. Every since then shes recieved several leters for collection from different CA's. One time she even sent them the fax showing it was paid. My question is what should i do since they keep switching hands and different CA's keep trying to get $$$ for a debt that was paid. And one CA says it is seeking Legal Action!

What should i do since it was paid and they still have it as a collection?

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks All

Send them C&D/FOAD letters along with a copy of the paid letter. If they continue to collect, seek the advice of an attorney. What was the amount due when they paid it? Did the debt get paid in full? Or did they settle for a lesser amount? Sounds like they might be trying to collect on a balance after settlement. Not positive though.

The first step is to DV the CA. Don't fax the CA anything; you don't have to prove the debt is paid. They have to show you proof that they are collecting on an actual debt. If they can't, they have to stop. If they continue to attempt to collect, send copy of proof the debt was paid along with a complaint letter to your state AG.
