Closed credit card w/charges!!

I'm not really new to the board, but I had to re-register again. So...hello to everyone, and I love the board!

I have had myself out of credit debt for sometime now (thanks to the board here) but have encountered a problem that I can get resolved!

I have searched for info but am unable to locate anything.

So here goes.....;

I paid off and closed an account sometime back in January. Actually my husband did. However, a few months later he noticed that Rhapsody Music had charged a service and he had received a statement from the credit card company. (I have to tell you that this was a credit card from Applied Card). Anyway, he called Applied and they corrected it and did say that since it was a paid off and closed account it should not have happened. End of story.

So we thought.......

Three months later, (today) he gets a statement from Applied Card and it has... you guessed it... a charge from Rhapsody Music!!! Aargh!!!:confused:

Husband calls the card company and 30 minutes later, he is no better off than when he started. They are clueless, and said to dispute it!

I tried to pull up stuff on the FTC site, but can't find anything that refers to a closed card, with unautherized charges??!

If I send the card company a letter and copy of the statement that says; "CLOSED", is that good enough? What can I do to keep this from happening and also from becoming a negative mark on my credit report??

This is insane and it's very frustrating.

Thank you in advance.

Sounds like you need to get Applied's head to pop out of their A$$! I would start with the letter and stuff. See what happens. If it doesn't help you may have to get Applied's attention w/an ITS letter. If you have proof that the account has been closed and Applied still lets people charge to that card, how is that your fault? I can see how that would be frustrating. BTW, welcome back.

Hi MadinKS!

Thanks for the welcome.

Yes, I would think it wouldn't be my fault, but hey, you know we live in America where you're; "Guilty before proven innocent!!"

Hopefully someone else will throw some more light on this.

I'll start the ITS letters too. Thanks!
