Trans Union hung up on me

I received an updated copy of my credit report. The front letter stated two of the disputes I had made had been removed but three other had been verified, no change. I could not understand how they could verify no change when the other two had removed the information.

I called TR spoke with Sampson and asked who they verified the information with at each of the no changes. He told me he could not give me that information.

I explained to him that it was my federal right to have that information and the first page of Trans Union credit report stated I am entitled to this information. Name, address, description of how the investigation was conducted and names of the person they contacted.

Sampson told me that information was confidential he also said that they do not contact a person a request is sent electronically to each company (creditor) item I disputed and they report back electronically.

I then asked how they know the information reported to them is true. He said because that is what the company reported. I asked if he has a name of the person who responded with the information he said no it is done electronically. I asked for the IP address it ws sent from he said he could not give me that information because it was confidential.

By this time he said he was transfering me to his supervisor Sharon. She asked me if I had a specific item in question. Explained to her it was Credit Protection in question.

I explained that I had sent them a verification regarding the $143.00 they said I owed to comcast cable company along with the signed receipt from comcast showing the date they picked up the cable box and the date (same day) my dish was installed both dates being 4/24/06. They are billing me for three months service after this date. Which they have not responded to.

I told Sharon I wanted to know who at Credit Protection TR spoke with. She told me the same thing That the information is confidential and everything is done electronically they never speak with a person. I also asked her whether they looked at the documentation I sent to them regarding this account not being correct. After being put on hold for 10 minutes she came back and said their decision was the information could not be used. When I then demanded to know why and told her TR was voilating my right and I planned on persuing the legal path she hung up on me.

Now on a good note this web site has gotten me so involved I signed up to a college course as a paralegal. Mind you I am probabaly going to be one of the older people in class but I cannot get over how peoples rights are violated with hardly any recourse. It is a very sad situation for the public to be in. I start on line courses Monday wish me luck.

Might I suggest something? I would suggest writing a request for MOV. If you are pursuing a court case, the telephone conversation is hearsay. If they respond to your letter w/the same ignorance and disregard for the law, you will have better grounds for a lawsuit. It's ridiculous how few rights we have are thrown to the wayside for big business. Don't forget that the CRAs don't work for us, they work for big business. We don't pay them, big business does. It's sad but true. I wish you success in your fight and w/going back to school. Good luck.

For the most part you will want to avoid talking to CRAs and CAs on the phone. The FCRA gives you the right to request the method of verification (MOV) of who verified the information. Mostly it's just done electronically which is why for the most part disputing online is a waste of time. I always send a DV first. At any rate, stay off the phone and only correspond in writing from this point forward.
