jazmin
I have a CA acct from utility bill (OC City of Ft. Collins) showing up on only my EX report. It states paid, zero balance, and Date Opened 10/1998. I don't remember it but I moved from there in 5/1998 so I guess that's the date the CA got ahold of it. I disputed with EX, came back verified and "scheduled to remain on report until 2017"!!!*How long can they keep this on there??? And does that time start from DOFD or when I paid (I don't have that date either).*Do I DV the CA and ask for OC address??
argento05
You can DV the CA, but I'm going to guess that you are outside of the 30 window which means that they will probably not be responding. You might want to write the CRA and ask them to provide you with the DOFD for the account. This date starts the SOL clock for reporting. So you need to get accurate dates. I find that the information contained in CR's that the CRA's mail to me contains MUCH MORE information than the ones that we can get online. So, get the CRA's to mail you your reports. You're entitled to a free one once a year. When you get it, check the dates. Once you have more accurate information, check back in. Also, I'm surprised that the CRA doesn't list the OC on the collection account. When you write to them get this as well.Good luck.
IHateCAs
Based on that fall off date, it means you won't default on the account for another 3 years.Poor coding on Experian's part.
jazmin
So I guess my only option is to get the address of the OC and try a goodwill letter? Does it remain for 10 years since it was from the City and not a private business? I find it really hard to beleive they have accurate records from 1998 (either the OC or the CA)
timbercreektech
It's an error! Track it down and it will go away.
SugarNspice
That shouldn't even be on there according to the dates. I would just call the CRA and point out the error.
kevin3344
I had a similar situation happen. When I was shopping for my mortgage Radio Shack was on my report. I disputed and it came back 'verified'. I wasn't really concerned because the account was 10 years old! I wrote them a letter that said the reporting time had expired and they removed it. IHateCAs
This just proves Experian needs better coding. How hard is it to check to make sure that the DOFD is not > current date?
kevin3344
Call them and ask for the DOFD. It's required by the FDCPA to be reported within 90 days by the CA, so they definitely have it.
rfinnesey
Does anyone have a sample letter I can use to request DOFD?CheersRyan
SecretAgentWoman
Everyone has told you to CALL the CRA, not write, why do you need a sample letter for that?Just say "Yo! What is the date of first deliquency being reported on this account? Don't you think that a date of deletion of 2017 is a bit off?"
