shanleyecs
The process to be added as an authorized user on an active credit account is relatively simple. The primary cardholder must call and request to add you to their account. No credit report will be run on you, since the card is based on the primary's credit history. Once added, all positive (and negative) information about the card payments will be reported to the credit bureaus. You can remain an authorized user for as long as the primary would like, there is no age limit.Hope this helps.
simplysilky
Thank you for your response! So, they can take me off the account when they want to...will my credit scores drop when they do?
shanleyecs
They can take you off of the account when they want, at no risk to the primary. Your credit score will not drop as long as the account is in positive standing. If you are removed, your history will remain on your bureau reports. jq26
BTW, authorized user is a great way to boost the scores. Then you can use that better score to eventually establish your own good credit accounts. Just a note- there are some companies that do not report authorized users to the CRAs. From personal experience, I can tell you that Citibank does. When my girlfriend added me on her citibank card, the tradeline showed up about two weeks later on my reports and gave me a roughly 30 point bump-

momof5
Home Depot is reporting AU on Ex for me.BTW, because they don't need to run your credit, they don't have your SSN. It gets to your report via name and address (the card holder's address). Home Depot was not reporting on any of my bureaus. (It belongs to my mom in NY). I saw a trick on another board to go to TC, click on the "my account" link and add that person's address to your "previous" address area. The address does NOT report on your bureau, but *bing* suddenly the AU account reports! That is how I got it to report on EX.
