chilton1
Does any one know if these clowns can collect in Illinois. Collect America has given my account over to them. I did not find their info under collections on the Illinois website. Methus ????Since they are a law firm how do I find out if they can practice in Illinois? This is an old providian account last payment was may 2002 which means that the SOL is up in May. I received a dunning letter on the 20th of April. I am waiting to send the response on the 17 of the May to buy some time until the SOL passes. Does this mean that June first it is out of SOL or is it May 2007 (illinois is 5 years).
LadynRed
Since they are a law firm how do I find out if they can practice in Illinois?Call the IL State Bar Association. However, unless they're suing you and would need to appear in court, they don't have to be licensed to practice law in IL. last payment was may 2002 which means that the SOL is up in May. No, SOL would be up in JUNE - don't forget that 30 days to your next payment - which you didn't pay and THAT starts the SOL.

Tazjeepcj7
Their website indicates they do not have lawyers in Illinois but have "affiliations" with attorneys in other states.http://www.bronsonandmigliaccio.comNo doubt if they were to sue you they would probably bring in another party. CleverCynic
Did they send it cmrrr? If it was a regular letter you could probably ignore it. I know the car people were hammering my phone in January the last month before SOL, now not a peep... never spoke to them or answered... probably for the best. chilton1
No they did not send it CMRRR. But I am not going to ignore it. I am going to protect my rights and send it in. At least, i can see if they have any records. I will send a DV to them and my third to Collect America. At least I will have some leverage if they try to come after me. Collect america has not validated; I have debt validated them starting in February. I think they are trying to scare me by getting an aggressive attorney to persue me. sinfall
I have dealt with B&M already and they are VERY pushy. I ended up settling for monthly payments with them because I was unaware of better ways to handle the issue. The first time they called me I asked for copies of the original account information from Providian and they refused and said "_______ you have a debt that you are responsible for, what difference will that information make. You owe this amount and you need to pay it now."She was very hostile and rude and I didn't know my rights. My wife now has them calling her over a credit card (providian) that my wife co-signed for her mother, which never got paid. I want to make sure we take better action this time.
