delighted4
Daughter attends college out of state. In 2006 apparently a tax lien was placed on her good rating credit report and she did not receive any paperwork prior to the lien. What can she do? She attends College in New York and I live in CA.Worried Mom
merkurfan
Does she owe??? If she does. she'll have to settle it to get it marked paid. it'll haunt her for ever if unsettled. If she does not, keep in mind the state did not list it on her report. The CRA's pay some high school drop outs 10 an hour or less to dig through county records. Trust me, as the recipiant of several tax leins that where not mine (I have a VERY common name) they make TONS of mistakes, and can be a bit challanging to correct. Step one: dispute as not mine (have her do it) they verify or delete... Step two: if they verify call the state agentcy (or the IRS depending on what kind of lein) and ask them about it. If it is not hers have them send proof, send that off with a new dispute via CMRRR, expect a delete.Step three: if the above does not work, and you know they are not hers ITS all reporting CRA's and sue their butts off.If it IS hers settle it ASAP before they go after her. The reporting clock does not even start until it is settled.

Ahntara
As a legal item, tax liens require a disposition. Your daughter needs to obtain either a Release of Lien or an Order to Vacate Lien. This document needs to be recorded at the same location as the original lien.

Greg
Is the tax lien in CA or NY? CA can be very nasty with collecting. The California Franchise Tax board can and will do the following: Garnish without a hearing, seize income tax refunds, suspend driver's license, suspend professional licenses. It's the modern day equivelent to debtor's prison. Sorry for the bad news. Post more info and I'll help the best I can with advice.Greg
