My PFD letter must have been too pathetic

Now what do I do? I wrote PFD letters for accounts totalling no more than about $250 total for three CAs and about 6 derogatory TLs.

Now they've all hit my credit report (except TU, which always runs behind) as Paid Collection, Balance $0. That's not what I had in mind, as I was trying to get them to delete the TL altogether.

Should I be grateful that I had that happen and leave it alone? My PFD letter was pretty pathetic, but I had no idea it would work so well that they would just drop the collections. 8]

No, These were medical accounts. I told them that medical bills were still piling up and I'd like to make an attempt to settle the previous debt while there is still a chance for me to financially do so and those that worked with me would jump to the top of my list of people I paid.

I'm wondering how much damage the paid collection will have on my report and score.

You sent a PFD offer with no money and they just updated you to $0 balance? Hmm. Did your score go down, it may have re-aged?

I offered them about 40-45% of the amount they claimed owed. This only hit today, so I'm anxious to pull my TC report and see what my fakos show. The scores couldn't be any worse than an unpaid collection could they?

I wish I had waited to take divemedic's advice to do a DV first, but I was a newbie back then and didn't know what I was doing! ;)

Yes, your score could go down. It all depends on how old the account is. Example, say you have a 2.5 yr old unpaid collection and you pay it. Now you have a paid account that could possibly be re-aged (depends on your state etc) that has recent activity.
