Any experience disputing Providian?

Recommended Posts

Yesterday, I did an online dispute with the BIG 3 for an old Providian account from 2001.

Does anyone know what their records are like from 6 years ago? They did sell the account to a JDB, but are still reporting a balance. I didn't dispute the balance reporting, but just disputed it as "not mine."

Did I do anything wrong?

Just nervous and very impatient waiting for the results...wondering if I screwed anything up yet.

My plan is to dispute the OC's that are out of SOL (5 years in WV) online first. And next I have plans to DV the heck out of those JDBs. I suspect that's when the real fight will begin!

PS: 2 completed online disputes so far....1 (Newport News/FCNB) was a success and the other (Cap 1 CC) a "temporary" failure.

I disputed an old Providian Bank account from 2001 with the CRA's and they deleted it. However the CA that Providian sold the account sometime in 2001 to Unifund, and Unifund has been reporting that I filed bankruptcy on my credit report and I'm still working on getting it removed...I've been working on it since Jan 07.

I really want to hear about the results on this one, because I have an old one that I would like to get rid of with them also.

I will wait til I hear what happened with yours......I figure if two of you got

rid of them, I may be able to do the same.

I disputed a old providian account. They say I defulted in 01, I say 00.. Anyways, I disputed all 3 and they verified all 3. Oddly, all 3 TL's are COMPLETELY different. Different amounts owed, different dola, different date of defult. different days late (it's a charge off) heck one even shows me CURRENT. They sold my 300 dollar ballance to Arrow who now thinks the account is worth 2000 dollars...

I just sent them a dispute with o/c letter, I'll give that 30 days then it's a ITS for the incorrect TL's that go all the way back to 05.

I disputed Providian from an old '00 (date of last payment) account and it was DELETED on all 3 reports. Providian sold it to Unifund and I disputed them and they DELETED. Unifund sold it to LVNV Funding and I disputed them, they verified but I have them in a corner right now. I suspect they will drop off any day now. Not sure if disputing the Unifund was so easy b/c they had no legal claim to it since they sold to LVNV or not, but it was an easy delete (used the 1-2 punch). One thing I did do before starting the Providian disputes was to call and record their conversation (never told them I was recording and both states are single party). They could not find me in the system. I asked to be transferred to collections.. they couldn't find me, then I disputed.

Hi Fizzle, :)++

Thanks for the input. It gives me hope. :-)

How did you dispute with the CRA's..online or via CMRRR? Did the CRAs delete after 30 days or before then?

I sent them simple statement saying the account was not mine via CMRRR and they deleted them off all three credit reports. I did this earlier this year. I think one CRA sent me a report before 30 days, while the other two sent me one report at the 30 day mark, however, I can not remember which one did what.

You guys might have luck with providian since it seems Washinton Mutual seems to have aquired them or at least some of their cards. Maybe their old records won't transfer over so well... if your lucky.

Just wanted to throw that out there.

Thanks for all the replies.

I think you're right about the good luck redbank. I just checked my dispute status with TU and it's GONE, GONE, GONE! xdancex It only took them about 3 days to delete. I hope they remove it from EX and EQ, too. I have another Providian account on my file, will probably dispute it next cuz I'm feeling lucky!!! :D
