LadynRed
I think this is probably more isolated than they want you to believe. I've had 3 attempts of fraud on my BofA account, one was a stolen debit card number. Every single time the first thing the bank did was cancel my debit card and give me a new number. Each time I got my money back within 2-3 days while they did their investigation and I got the affidavits to sign practically overnight. Every cent was returned and their investigations proved that it WAS theft/fraud.What I fail to understand is why this woman only relied on CALLING the bank . I'd have been camped on some bank manager's desk until they did something to STOP the illegal activity - like freezing the account, cancelling the cards. Did she file a police report ?? Don't think the article said. Why on EARTH did she NOT stop the direct deposit on the paycheck when the thief hit in the beginning ?? You just can't sit back and rely on PHONE CALLS to low-level employees to get help. You HAVE to sit on their backs and make a LOT of noise until you get some action. You also have to act FAST and actually DO something YOURSELF to mitigate the problem as much as you can.
momof5
BoA saw funky charges on my debit card.... (I was in Panama City and did a debit there when simultaneously, $60 in charges (multiple) for gasoline was put on my acct and those charges were in GA.) They froze my debit card. I was forced to call them to find out whazzup and they asked me about the charges, credited them back and issued a new debit card with a new #, canceling the old one. This would have surprised the heck out of me that she wasn't better handled. CarolinaBlueEyes
I am not a fan of BofA but i am with Lady in Red..why in the world didnt she freeze the account and stop her direct desposit.. she kept putting money into the account... I would not have put in another dime and I would have also been camped out at the bank first thing monday morning..
Fizzle1979
About her direct deposit, I know our company payroll week ends on Sunday. So Monday morning it it processed and starts the "electronic" deposit process. They have told us that after Monday afternoon, they can no longer stop the "electronic" process. If they stop it for one person, it stops for our entire company. Whether they are lying or not I do not know. We have employees who do get NSF charges often and they come to us to ask them to stop the direct deposit on Wednesday and it's too late.

jasen
Ouch, here's another BoA horror story. This one's even worse. She lost over $68k (including a $20k overdraft?) and the bank is suing her for it!http://www.nypost.com/seven/05212007/news/regionalnews/dough_unto_others_regionalnews_chuck_bennett.htm
oompaloompa
I don't know why everybody hates on BoFa so bad. They were the first and only people to extend me a bank account after ChexSystems. Their online banking reflects my debits and credits within 30 minutes- my online billpay is scheduled to pay 6-7 of my monthly bills electronically. When I lost my checkbook one call canceled the account, transfered my funds to a brand new account and put stop payment on the entire book--all at 3am no less. They also were the first bank to offer me a real credit card.Sure they're big, slow and pay **** on my savings. Thats why I have my money at 5% @emigrantdirect.com , they pay me 1.4% cash back on my CC also with them. But they're good folks for the most part. Tellers are dumb, and the front line of CSR's arent much better. But anytime I've had something I couldn't handle online I was able to navigate through their (awful:roll: ) phone system to someone who could handle the issue. I haven't stepped foot inside a branch for 3 months now.
Bala
I don't know why everybody hates on BoFa so bad.... Hate may be to strong a word. Massive corporations wield enormous power over all our lives in our economy. Often these same gigantic corporation pay our legislators to right laws benefiting the large conglomerate over individual citizen. This prostitution of power is what we should hate.BoA is neither good nor bad. Certainly better than Crap One! But like many things in life one has to balance the good with the bad. Life, financial or otherwise is a practice in compromise._________________Outsource congress.

cuomor
BOA sucks because they are one of those banks that dont make customers # 1. B#@&%rds!that's kinda true too. I went into one of their branches looking of an unsecure personal loan to consolidate my debt, and they wouldn't consider it unless I made 100k/year. WTF?!
