Equifax/CSC - can they play games with the 30 days?

Recommended Posts

Equifax is the one listing my report. Equifax is all over the web, in every credit information site/book/etc...Equifax maintains a file on me.

Now, I send my dispute to Equifax. The address that is published everywhere. I have a certified tracking showing they got it April 5,2007.

They sit on it for 30 days, then get around to forwarding it to CSC, who handles Texas.

CSC claims they recieved it on May 5, and the 30 days starts then.

Who is right? I'm beyond mad.

THEY SUCK!!!

I called EQ and disputed directly with them. All my disputes are showing on TC. Maybe I got lucky, I somehow doubt it.

I'm sure after my 30 days I'll find out they just sent mine to CSC also.

Doesn't the 30 days start when they mark the account in dispute?

I'm sure I missed this somewhere, but what is the purpose of CSC anyhow? I would think that if EQ is reporting the debt, the clock should be started as soon as EQ signs for it... it's not your problem they have to forward it to santa or whatever.

In certain states, CSC is the actual owner of your EQ file.

I don't understand the whole 30 day thing....Im just received a letter back from EX and it was 35 days after they received it yet many people on this board claim they have longer to verify accounts. The FCRA states 30 DAYS to verify an acount so why do the CRA's get longer ?

I have found EQ the easiest to work with except for once instance. I went round and round with them on one issue for 4 months, finally called them, acted like a nut-case and gave them the intent to sue line, which I had already done in writing but they couldn't "find" it. The problem was resolved in 14 days.

They have 30 days with a 15 day extension if new information comes up. If they send you a notice asking for additional information or you call them during the dispute, it could extend the required disputing time.

(B) Extension of period to reinvestigate. Except as provided in subparagraph ©, the 30-day period described in subparagraph (A) may be extended for not more than 15 additional days if the consumer reporting agency receives information from the consumer during that 30-day period that is relevant to the reinvestigation.

I hate dealing with them also. I submitted my dispute online and never heard a word from them. When I called they said they never received it. I had to re-submit in writing.

I hate them.

BTW, I tried using another zip to dispute inquiries on EQ and to date--no dice.

This is way people on the board are advocates for only disputing in writing. It's a shame the CRA's pull this.

When did you try it and are you sure the zip you used was one not servicable by CSC?

You have to use the complete address from a state that is NOT a csc state. I've disputed and erased 62 disputes doing this with a buddies address in IL. It worked just fine. I did them 6 at a time in batches of 12 every two days. they vanished from TC in groups of 12 about 3 days later.
