lkatt
I just got a notice in the mail today about a renewal on a judgment from 1997. It was renewed on the 17th of May apparently to make the 10 yr renewal deadline for Oregon which would have been the 22 at least thats what they told me when I called the court clerk the original date was. It is with a credit collection comp. has been for the last 10 yrs. I have never heard a word from anyone in all that time. I now live in OK. I do remember the judgment after I called the court to see what it was and I thought I had paid it back in 97. Apparently not. Anyway I searched this site to see how long it could remain on my credit report. All I could find was for 7 yrs on my report but they could hound me forever as long as they keep renewing the judgment on time. Can they put this back on my credit report? Or now since the 7 yrs are several yrs past only try to collect and keep renewing? One more question , The judgment was made when I had another last name the renewal doesn't have my old name the one the judgment was made in it has my new married name. Can they change names like that with out some kind of notice or my old name at least appearing? As far as they know I may not be the same person. flacorps
The good news is that OK probably has a time limit in which an action to enforce a "foreign" (out of state) judgment must be brought. You may have lived in OK long enough that the limit has run. Should it be on your reports? The FCRA says it can be so long as the judgment is still good. Will it be on your reports? CRAs tend to drop 'em after 7 years regardless. The name change and/or re-recording of the renewal might put it back on there though. You could dispute as obsolete, but it would be a crapshoot. There's probably nothing wrong with the name change ... there would be if they were mistaken, but they're not.
