What's to stop a CA from....

Reading through all the postings here @ CIC has been a real eye-opener. However there has been a question on my mind that I haven't been able to find the answer to here...not with certainty anyhow.

I understand when you Dispute / DV a CA they can't verify with the CRA during such time. That's the reason for disputing with the CRA - to get the item deleted when the CRA inquires.

What's to stop the CA from, say, the next month, put that TL back? They "regularly" report.....won't this just skip one reporting period and then the next one it's back up? If they can't Validate the debt this time, what makes them keep a TL off the report?

Ignorant confusion showing me I still have a long long road to travel

I understand that, but I'm still unclear. "until they provide validation".......that means forever? I'm just wanting to make sure if a TL gets deleted form the CRA tomorrow because that CA can't or won't validate to the CRA, it won't appear again mysteriously in January

I think you're confusing DV with disputing. DV is between you and the CA, disputing is between you and the CRA.

To answer your question though, as dive mentioned if you send a timely DV they have to validate to continue collection. It's as simple as that. If they don't comply it's a violation of the FCRA and you can sue them.

If you dispute an item already on your credit report, a CO for example, and it's deleted - the FCRA protects you from a CA reinserting that information. Read "Requirements relating to reinsertion of previously deleted material" and "Procedures to prevent reappearance" of the FCRA.

OK Thanks. That's what I couldn't really find. Thank you!
