NCO proper validation?

Hello everyone. I started my repair journey 3 weeks ago disputing everything on my report. I have 2 collection accounts with NCO. I got a letter from them two weeks ago saying they were investigating the accounts. As soon as I got this letter both accounts were removed from my credit report. I was extremely happy, but today I got a letter from them saying this:

We are in receipt of your inquiry regarding the above referenced accounts. In response to your request for validation, enclosed please find the materials we received from SunTrust Bank that corresponds to your account.

Behind this is a copy of a letter from suntrust thanking me for my inquiry, giving me my account number, date closed, and amount due. They then say I can pay them directly without ever mentioning NCO. They also sent my last banking statement with them from 07/2003.

Is this proper validation? Does this mean that the are still the account holder and NCO has no authority? The thing is, Suntrust was not reporting on my credit report, only NCO. Do you guys think NCO will leave me alone or will they put the Collection back on my account? Where do you think I should go from here.

Any help would be most appriceated. Thanks

I think your first step would be to find out who owns the debt. It sounds to me like SunTrust is still the owner and they were using NCO to collect. That's probably why you received the letter from SunTrust. NCO probably dropped it like it's hot and kicked it back to ST saying uncollectable. IMO, call SunTrust and see what's up. If they are going to take payment for NCO, consider a pay in full for not reporting it. If you can pay them, they're not reporting, and NCO is gone, you're golden. Make arrangements with ST to pay it for not reporting, in writing of course. Good luck.

That's a choice you'll have to make. I think that SunTrust, if they still own it, will pass it on to another CA eventually, and start reporting. IMO, I would call SunTrust and talk it out. It may save you loads of headache in the long run. This is JMHO.

What did you want? To pay it off? To have it removed? Both?

You can let sleeping dogs lie, but I have a feeling this will be back.

I just want it to stay off. I dont care if its paid or not. So then I will call suntrust and ask for a pay for deletion right? What if they dont go for it?
