CBs "unable to accept documentation" ?????

Recommended Posts

All:

I two months ago I paid off a collections TL. They said it would take up to 90 days to update to "paid" status, so I just disputed it with the CBs to get them going on the issue.

To my surprise, the CA did not confirm that I had paid, but verified a dollar amount and "unpaid / collections" status.

Since I had received written documentation from the company that I was paid in full, I copied that documentation and sent it to the three CBs with a written request that they update my status to "paid in full" with a $0 balance.

To my surprise, every one of them sent me a letter saying "We are unable to accept your documentation." How can this be? How can a letter from the CA saying that I am paid in full be unacceptable?

Nevertheless, they have all indicated that they will again contact the CA to re-dispute.

Why did they reject my copy of this paid-in-full letter as "unacceptable"?

Thanks

they never accept documentation from consumers, that would be too easy.

That's not completely true. They (TU) accepted a letter from me showing that a tax lien was paid. In fact they asked me to send it to them. I guess everybody situation is different. I regret I did that because now I am trying to get it removed.

Interesting situation unfolding about this item -- it has been deleted from all reports. Last week I got the letter about "unacceptable documentation" and True Credit shows this morning that the TL has been deleted from all reports.

WHY? I guess I shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth -- maybe it was because they got caught verifying a paid account and didn't want to push the issue? Any ideas?

I guess I don't really care, it bumped all three scores 20 points overnight, now I just PRAY that since it's a paid collection that they don't bother to re-report it!

I sent TU a statisfied lein statement from the state, and to my suprise, the accepted it and insted of marking the lein paid, they DELETED it!

Could not ask for a better response if you ask me.

None of the CRA's accept documentation from the consumer. As Amerikaner said, you could have faked the paperwork.

What they DO do is, accept your documentation as a dispute and then verify with their own sources. They go through standard E-Oscar procedures and if your docs are correct (in their databases) the item is shielded from view; if not, it stays on. They send the "we do not accept..." form letter automatically to let you know their policy.

My recollection from a tax lien several years ago is that the county would not (at least at that time) report a lien as paid, only issue a letter stating the lien was paid. I had to get the letter and send it to the Credit Reporting Agencies to get the lien status changed from unpaid to paid.

"shielded from view?" Is this permanent, or will this item get re-reported in a month and my score goes back down?

I'm just confused by exactly what you meant.

THANKS!

smells like a loop hole for someone who wants a lein marked paid thats not. Fake a letter, send it off and boom, lien gone...

  • 5 weeks later...

I didn't say I would do it.. The state does not report the lein, the CRA trolls pick it up. If you send them a fake letter and they (the CRA) falls for it. what law have you violated? The lein is still active, and the state/fed can still collect. You just lied to a CRA, and CA's do that ALL the time, any of them go to jail???

What law have you violated? Forgery of Federal/State documents, mail fraud for sending them through the mail, impersonation of a government official (since you would have to sign someones name to make the FAKE letter appear official). Lets just end this discussion, because anytime you try to defraud, your going to get bit in the end!

guess you have not seen a state of minnesota lein release. Theres no ones signature on it ;) Just says the lein number, and the pay off date. Honestly what the state sent me looks like something I could (but would not) make with microsoft word.

granted, I did not think of the impersonation angle or forgery. You can skip mail fraud and fax :)
