Why do some collectors insist on speaking via telephone?

They want to harass you a bit, or trip you up. Oh my best guess is so they can call you EVERY month to remind you at least 5 times that you still owe

them X and they expect their payment...bla bla...they will make agreements on the phone, then dishonor them later.

You don't want to call them. Just send a return letter telling them

to contact you via mail, as you previously requested. Send a copy of

your previous letter, state the terms again, etc.

If they don't your want money, they won't respond.

Efficient?   U surely are jesting? Of course you are.

That would be efficient for the CA right?

Efficiently making sure that the stupid deadbeat on the other end of the phone gets screwed and glued again..cause...after all it isn't in writing!

Let's see. Pretend you and I are making plans to go to the movies this weekend. Would it be more efficient to make our plans via telephone or to correspond only through US mail?

Real time interaction >>>> snail mail

Which is why it cracks me up when some people take the "do not talk on the phone" attitude all the way to the courtroom. They get so far as to initiate a lawsuit, and won't even take 5-10 mins to talk settlement on the phone.

Please.

Some of us believe that initiating a lawsuit that may or may not affect our financial well-being is somewhat more important than negotiating to see "happy feet" or some such nonsense.

Paper Trail is necessary, for sure...frivolity may involve movies, but NEVER personal financial survival.

If it's not in writing, it didn't happen.
