SecretAgentWoman
I only asked for a 90 day one, but somehow, someone, changed it to a 7 year extended. The Experian dude I talked to said usually you only get a 7 year one when you show you've filed identity theft and send the police report to the credit bureaus. Told me I was "lucky" I got a "free" one... Anyway, pros, cons, for just leaving as is?The way I see it, it can keep me in check with too much impulsive credit applying. I'd have to double think every type of credit I apply for, and wait for the identity verification, etc.But are there cons I haven't considered? Any other opinions? I only wanted to remove some stubborn items from Experian that they only consider removing if you have a FA, and I've accomplished that. So, normally, I'd be writing in now asking them to lift it. What do you think?
gypsie
The only real drawback I see is the PIA it's going to be when applying for credit- that's going to get real old after a while.- especially if you want something like a new cell phone contract, instant credit at a store- it won't happen, instantly that is....but it will make you think- "do I really need to apply for this"....I would personally lift it, just because you will have your credit repaired before that 7 years is up- hopefully, right? And, you'll want the freedom to use it wisely and enjoy it.
bigjohnstud4200
SWA, didn't you get flagged with EQ b/c of the potential to file a lawsuit (can't remember the name of the special department at EQ). If so, I bet that's what did it.
CleverCynic
I've found the fraud alert to be a complete PITA. I can't wait until it's gone. I never even asked for the 90 day one.
SecretAgentWoman
Ok, then, when this last round of disputes are through I'll write in asking that it be lifted. I was looking for positives, but I guess the only one would be to prevent ID theft. But I'm so vigilant about watching my own credit I probably don't need it. SugarNspice
I have the 7 year FA on my DH CR and didn't ask for it, but I dont plan on removing it anytime soon just in case a new CA plans on purchsing a debt. I just got a letter from a new CA saying that they sent the debt back to the OC because of the FA, which I was shocked.

aadam101
So maybe having it could benefit me??? I have NEVER had a CA report on my CR even though they do own some of the debts. I find it odd and I just keep waiting for them to start reporting. At least I am prepared and know exactly how to handle them if it happens!
