Denial/Do I need to verify my identy?

Recommended Posts

I applied for a gap card 1 days after I put a FA on my cr. I don't know why I applied I guess I was just excited about getting a target card and wanted to see "you've been approved" again. Anyway I got the denial message and that I would recieve the reason in the mail in 10 days.

I got it today. Does this mean I just need to verify my identiy or is there more to the denial?

In evaulating your request, a credit scoring system was used that meets the detailed standards for such systms set out in the regulation implementing the provision of the FCRA.

This systems assigns a point value to various items of information which, taken together, have been determined to predict the statistical probability that a consumer will pay in accordance with the terms of the transaction request.......blah, blah, blah. I'm sure you get the idea. Then under it says

UNABLE TO VERIFY IDENTY OF APPLICANT.

Is this a denial because my credit score wasn't high enough or that they couldn't identify me?

They pulled TU - no baddies, 7 inq and my score was 674

Seems cut and dried to me. They couldn't ID you, especially since you put a FA on it a few days before applying...

so what is all the mumbo gumbo about the score?

Also at the very bottom of the letter it says:

"The sponsor of the program named above may wish to make other arrangements to process your transaction and contact you accordingly"

I called the gap today and the csr told me to send a copy of my license with the letter. She didn't ask for my ss or name. it just seemed like a standard answer. If there couldn't identity me why didn't they contact me at the number listed on my cell or send the letter indicating that I should contact them to complete my application?

Not sure about this other stuff.......I don't think you're denied, just becuase of the fact that if you were they'd tell you "we regret to inform you that you do not meet our esteemed standards...blah blah blah". I mean you should be completely fine, they just want to be sure they're talking to you. I could pretend to be you if i tried, and someone on the phone who doesn't know you would have no idea right? They're just playing the CYA game.

All this makes sense but the letter didn't tell me to identify myself or give any kind of instructions about identifying myself. I would think that if that was the reason they denied me that they would have some kind of instuctions on what I need to do to make sure I'm who I say I am?

Well, you flagged yourself pretty much...when you applied, did you list any contact info where they could accurately contact you? Even with that on there, though, I'd still say it had a lot to do with your FA rather than your score...

Yeah I did, my contact phone # is on my cr.
