chewy_fett
Just wanted to post to say how much success wife and I have had repairing our credit by using advice from this board! We started by being thousands in debt, sub 500 scores and feeling lost. Now, a little over a year later, we are almost 100% debt free with scores hovering near 700 and getting better EVERY DAY!What I can give back is this piece of advice...Outside of a car and mortgage, if you cannot save up and pay cash, you dont need it. chewy_fett
...Well using cash only will not help your credit much. The key is to use different types of credit, charge less than 20% of your limit, pay it off every month, and don't get "credit happy"!We usually buy gas or a book with our credit cards, something like that... pay it off when statement is due. We have a variety of credit; Visa, Dept store card, car loan...In all honesty, the best advice I could give after reading these forums for years and being in debt over our heads is this...PAY YOUR BILLS ON TIME and BE HONEST WITH YOURSELF AND YOUR CREDITORS!!! Yes, theres is ID theft, false charges and all that but PLEASE don't take to heart most of the stories you read here. America is addicted to credit, being able to get something you could otherwise NOT afford because banks prey on us! WISE UP PEOPLE!!!Plus, our scores have increased exponentially by simply paying what we owed to start with instead of arguing and sending letters, etc with the creditor. If we knew we charged that on a credit card, we called them, asked for help, stated we want to pay and make things right.... BAM! done, gone, credit score increase!!!Simple as that folks...
