Looking for an opinion of my situation

Recommended Posts

Here is my situation in brief,

I have 4 debts in collection, all over two years old. I have 4 CC accts listed as Charge offs, all of these over 3 years old. I've bought 5 new vehicles over the past 5 years all with perfect payment records except 1 which has a 30 day late, this was in the month that I used the vehicle as a trade in on my present car. Damn Capital One!!! I am currently paying on 2 of the above mentioned loans.

I,ve been reading these forums for the past couple of weeks and am a bit confused. Basically I'm asking am I just shooting craps by going down the DV route w/ the Ca's and Charge-Offs? Should I just let SOL run out and come off My Report?

I would also like someones opinion on Planet Feedback? Is it a worthwile option of contacting OC's in regard to situations like mine w/ Cap1?

I also have a question a bit off topic but has anyone had any dealings w/ Veteran's Administration with the purchase of a new home??

Thanks to anyone who can give the time of giving me a responce!

They are just gvt backed loans.

There is some good information on them on the VA site.

You may want to repost your question re va loans in the section about

Mortgages. There are people there who can tell you all about it.

Hi there,

Ok-to clarify you have 4 debts already in collection and those debts are only 2 yrs of age? What are those debts? Credit cards?

Next, you say you have 4 CC accts listed as charge-off accts? Are these the above mentioned accts? You mentioned these are 3 yrs of age though? So, they charged off 3 yrs ago--but went to collections 2 yrs ago?

As far as DV-ing anyone, be quite careful. According to this site's SOL information, North Carolina is a 3, 3, 5, 3 state. Meaning, those are the SOL's on debts. 3 yrs for open-ended accts. Make sure you verify for YOUR state what the SOL is on your debts PRIOR to DV-ing or disputing. So, you are at the thresh hold of being ok I think...but you'd need to be SURE it's beyond SOL.

If there is ANY incorrect information listed w/ in ANY of the tradelines it would be WELL worth your while to dispute the information. Just remember, for OC tradelines (whose noting the CO's) they don't have to follow the same protocol so you'd need to dispute w/ the CB's and/or ask for an "investigation" from the OC.

Have you received any papers from collection agencies lately on ANY of these debts? If so, which ones and when? Well, if it were me I'd start by going over the tradelines w/ a fine tooth comb and dispute w/ the credit bureau's the ones I disagreed with.

As far as Planet Feedback, I have had little success. One company did work with me from info I posted there, but that was it. It may be worth a try, but be careful. There's these folks that post there who only exist to pick apart your issue and somehow make it YOUR fault. They're oxygen thief types who are just a waste of space. It's sort of like a "critiquing" site now, I'm sure the collection companies are LOVING it. So, if you have a true dispute w/ Capitol One I strongly urge you to try to work it out w/ them, in writing if possible for paper trail purposes. Than, make sure you keep track of ALL conversations w/ them, include dates, times, names, details of convo. WHEN relief is not achieved, consider contacting the consumer affairs offices and filing a complaint w/ them and/or the BBB. If it's a violation of some sort, you'll want to include a complaint w/ the FTC and our local Attorney General offices.

As far as your VA question, I agree--go over to the mortgage folder and post that specific question there. That'd be your best bet.

I have experience with purchasing homes with the Certificate of Eligibility. What are you looking for? The VA website has most information as the others have said. From a consumer point of view... they take longer. So if you are looking for a quick close, forget it. On average they take 60 days. The VA inspects it themselves. Lots more paper to sign. There are VA fees, but in general closing costs are cheaper. What other information are you looking for?
