Have they been sent to a collection agency yet? Are any of them paid?

Medical bills aren't that different from any other bills. Read through the other posts here, learn as much as you can. These folks are glad to answer questions, but they're not going to hold your hand.

Jason if your medical are from 2 years ago, you might have a hard time getting them removed. You can TRY to dispute them with the credit bureaus. It might work. I'm just guessing but I would say if they are large amounts they will come back vertified.

The next thing you might do ...is try calling the hospital or doctors office. See if you can get a PFD. If they are really huge amounts...you might be better off letting them age a little more.

My medical bills have definally been the hardest to remove off of my credit report. Good luck

:)++ Jetscarbie, thank you so much. They are about 12,000.00. Which are huge to me. I was thinking let them age but I did not know what to do.I was thinking if I validated the debt with the collection agency that the CA would file a judgement against me. I think your advise is the best.

Thank you for your time.I appreciate your answer.

Peggy I could have gone all day with out your rude reply. Don't waste your time or other peoples.

My intent was not to be rude, and I apologize if it sounded that way.

I asked if they have been sent to a collection agency yet, because the way you handle them if they are in the hands of a collection agency is slightly different than if they are still in the hands of the medical provider.

The marks on my credit report are also mostly medical bills, so I know what you're going through. This was starting from when I was 18 years old, so my credit was trashed before I ever had the chance to get a credit card

When I said the folks here won't hold your hand, I simply meant that you should read as much as you can, and learn as much as you can.

Thanks for letting me know Peggy. I should have cooled off. I have been nervous with all this credit repair. Thanks for everything.

(They are in collections with a collections agency. Around 12,000.00. I think jetscarbie is probably right in my case.)

HMMM I do not know what to do I am a little afraid here of being sued. UGH.

Would you dispute all medical bill through the credit bureaus?

Will this cause the Collection Agencies to sue me?

Or should I send each collection agency a debt. validation letter first then dispute?

Sit back and relaxe a bit, unless they are outside right now witha gun, you are fine...

Next read everything in this forum, you will learn so much...just because they are medical collections is really no different than any other debt.

First do you have credit reports from all 3 bureaus? Now nit pick them to death, try to match everything, anything thats not correct is basis for dispute. CR has to be accurate.

Don't use tri bureau reports, get one from each agency, you can get them for free 1 time a year and the full reports tell more that the merged ones anyway.

Now sit down and do your homework...read the primers and decide what steps you need to take.

This was not created over night and it will not magically go away...

Knowledge is power, now go arm yourself....

Good Luck

Hi Whocares.GREAT name by the way! You crack me up! :)

I have been reading for months. But nothing points me in the exact direction I should go. Some say it is too early to dispute. Some say do not dispute unless you want to be sued. Some say DO NOT wake the sleeping Lion.

Jason...the thing is, you never know who is the sleeping giant.

Did you have insurance when these medical bills were made? If you did, you need to find out what your insurance paid.

I have tons of medical on my CR. I disputed with all the collections agencies......then when I got the green cards back.......I disputed with the CRA. I lost 5 medical collections off my report that way. But I did have some that verified. Now I just go from there. I have a little of an advantage now b/c they verified the CR without verifying with me.

Now that is the HELP I was looking for!:) I wanted to know others experiences.

I never had insurance. Never could afford it. And the jobs I had did not offer it or they kept me at a bit less than full time so I could not get insurance because I did not qualify.

Thank you for your experience and relpy.

Medical Collections ARE different from other collections because of HIPAA regulations that restrict what information can be given out about a patient by a medical provider.

Before you decide how to deal with medical collectors go to the following website and read it -- then make your decision how you want to handle medical collections.

http://whychat.5u.com/hipltr.html

To handle it using this method you must pay the bill if you owe it, however, it removes the reporting on your CR:

The following is an excerpt from one of the letters provided on the website:

Your furnishing of my account information to (collection agency name), is not in compliance with HIPAA,or (name of your State}'s Privacy Act, and any subsequent reporting of this account on my credit reports to (credit reporting bureaus) is a clear violation of Public Law 104-191 ("HIPAA") since there can be no permissible business purpose in divulging protected health information to anyone on an account once there is no longer any payment due.

You are required under the FCRA to accurately report the status of any account to the credit bureaus, and you are prohibited under the HIPAA and State privacy regulations from doing so on a PAID account, as there is no longer any permitted business purpose.

This website has several letters to use and gives information about the order to use them and how to get them off your CR.

Hope this helps someone out there.

Similar story, Jason.

In 2005 I ended up finding out that I had cancer, amongst a few other things, and I did not have medical insurance. I racked up over $30,000 in medical bills in just a few months thanks to surgeries and other medical crap. After much debate, I ended up filing CH7 BK because I didn't want that amount looming over my head.

After my BK? I've used the information on these forums, combined a lot of it, and begun a repair process. So far I've been successful with some deletions, which is better than nothing. =)
