Medical Leave of Absence & Credit Cards

I don't really know how much of a credit repair question this is, guess it's more of a preventative measure, but i was wondering if anyone knows anything about or has had experience with it

My mother currently has medical problems and is going to need surgery, she does not have any sick leave or vacation time at her disposal, i am basically forcing her at this point to take off work without pay, and i was thinking there was probably a way to freeze her CC accounts while she is not able to work, or something comparable to that

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, my first plan was going to be to call the CC companies and explain the situation and see what they say, i am assuming a doctors not will be needed

i will also note that she has fallen atleast 3 months behind on these CC payments due to missing work so much already
