aadam101
Are there fees associated with these cards? Generally, the only reason to cancel a card is to avoid the annual fees.
elyse449
I was reading at bankrate.com yesterday that closing credit cards will hurt your FICO. It reduces the cash available to you thus lowering your utilization. On the other hand, I've heard others say that lower limit cards do hurt your score. If you have a card with high fees and what not, I could understand wanting to cancel it, but make sure you've paid up on the others that you're keeping first...wait until that reports and than try closing an account. I'd just start with ONE though and the one I hate the most, like a First Premier or Cap one card. Cap one doesn't even report CL's so they harm people's credit anyway.Whatever you do, do not cancel the OLDER cards--they're what give your CR "age" so if you do that, you'll definitely see a drop in that FICO.Elyse
