whocares
I am thinking of complaining to the BBB about only collection on my report.MAF COLLECTION SERVICESThey are on my credit report because of a house we owned. The tenants moved and left a 100.00 water bill...Of course we had to pay it...but we were not notified of the debt until after it went to collections and the new tenants could not get the water turned on without payment. Seems they kept sending the bills to the previous tenant who ignored them. When we found out about the bill we paid it right away, and it does say paid collection, only open for one month.anyway I sent a good will letter and asked for it to be removed as I was told tough luck....CRA's are reporting it as a paid collection...I checked the BBB site and see they have an unsatisfactory rating for deceptive billing practices Based on BBB files, this company has an unsatisfactory record BBB Definition:unsatisfactory record - A company has an "unsatisfactory business performance record" with the Bureau is based on the experiences reflected in BBB files. Of the total of 34 complaints closed in 36 months, 19 were closed in the last year.Would you try to get it removed using the BBB as the CRA's just keep verifying it....Thanks
willingtocope
Who did you pay? The utility or the CA?(As a general rule, the BBB is farily useless. They have no real power to enforce anything, and at best will just add your complaint to the pile.)

whocares
opened march 2004, paid april 2004, when we found out, reported closed May 2004...yes and it says paid cllection. The bill was paid to the OC, not to the CA...so the OC reported it as paid to the CA, I never even got a bill before I went to the office and paid it in person. whocares
Dear Mr Lemaire, My name is Who Cares. I owned a house in Florida several years ago. The tenants moved and left a 100.00 water bill...Of course we had to pay it...but we were not notified of the debt until after it went to collections and the new tenants could not get the water turned on without payment. Seems the Palm Bay Water department kept sending the bills to the previous tenant who ignored them. When we found out about the bill we paid it right away, and it does say paid collection, only open for one month.I found out about this debt being reported on my credit about 2 months ago and was distressed to see it was listed as a paid collection #XXX. I am asking you to remove this item from my credit report because it is paid, and we had no knowledge of the debt until it was paid. Under the fair credit reporting act you must contact me before adding a debt to my account. The office in Palm Bay Florida did nothing to contact me, they kept billing the previous tenant.I have called your agency to ask for removal and they did not comply or even investigate the issue. This is my last plea before turning this issue over to the Better Business Bureau, where I found your contact information. Please remove this debt from all 3 CRA's and send me confirmation. My Current adress is:Who CaresLA LA Lanenowhere, KSThank you for your prompt attention, Who Cares

Amerikaner83
i think what whocares was referring to is the notice of adverse action being placed on one's credit report. I'll see if I can find the actual citation, but i'm not sure it would apply here anyhow
