MISHA228
I went to court for a judgement hearing and ended up settleling with the CA. The settlement agreement was for $700. I gave them a check for $600 right there and promised to pay the other $100 within two months. This was all put in writing and both parties were given the agreement.I paid the remaining $100 balance within a month by personal check via certified mail. After the second month, I received a letter from them stating I owe them $100 and they threatened to sue me if i didn't pay. I sent them a letter stating I already paid and enclosed a copy of the endorsed returned check front and back. I haven't heard back from them.Did they do something illegal or just irresponsible and unprofessional?
kevin3344
Probably just an oversight on their part. Just out of curiosity, how much was the original debt? Just by attending the hearing you saved yourself a lot of grief (namely from a default judgment). I wish more people would do that.
MISHA228
I think it was like $1300. Don't really remember but it wasn't that much.

keith
Just curious, did the agreement call for deletion on your credit files?
elyse449
...and did your agreement specify what would become of the remaining 600.00? Since it's over 500.00, you should receive a 1099 for this next tax season, to. It doesn't hurt anything tax wise, it's my understanding it just adds "income" or whatever.Elyse
keith
So true. You gotta love the IRS.
MISHA228
Just curious, did the agreement call for deletion on your credit files? No. Just that the bill would be considered paid in full.It didn't say anything about a 1099 or IRS either.
