STEELE8682
I had my bank account frozen for a 3K judgment I was making payments on until I became unemployed. While I was away and did not have access to my mail, my account was frozen for 5K. Yesterday 8/7/07 I deposited a check for 2K into my account, only to discover an hour later because I stupidly failed to look at my receipt, that my account was now frozen. These funds came from an understanding family member. I called them immediately and asked them to put a stop payment on the check. It was an out of state check which usually takes 5-7 days to clear at my NY bank Chase. Can this freeze prevent the issuer of the check from putting a stop payment on the check. They promptly requested this about 1 hour after I deposited the check. Please help!!
AISLE4
Another example why it's not a good idea to ever give a CA your bank info--I assume it was a CA?If the check was processed before the stop order was placed, you're out of luck. But it sounds like you might have made it in time.
hawaiiguy
The check should be stopped if the stop payment is placed before it attempts to clear the check writers bank, it sounds like the stop payment was placed way before that. Have your family member keep checking on it though.
bigjohnstud4200
It will likely not go throuugh, open a new account and when you start making payments again, USE MONEY ORDERS!
torikid
A NACA attorney told me today that aggressive collection companies have ways of finding accounts. Fortunately they passed a law in my state that if you have a joint account they can not do this. Check your state regarding joint accounts.
