rella5
when approaching an OC (Discover in particular) for settlement, is it better to make the first offer soon after validation or wait and let them send a settlement letter? And is it better to write a letter or call?
brokeinok
Good question! I'm trying to figure out what to do about Discover as well... anyone??
beachmonkey
Definately write so you have a paper trail loaded with proof if you need it.
rella5
yes but do you write to them 1st or wait for them to contact you 1st ? I may be over working this thing but I'm trying to glean strategy from others experiences. its kind of a chess game, each move is based on the previous move of your opponent. and I am lousy at chess. So I am wondering, if you move 1st does that make them smell $ ?
swirlgirl
I think you should send you letter first. Discover may not send you a settlement letter at all. Instead, they could just send your account to a CA.If you strike first, you may save yourself the hassle of dealing with some crappy CA in the future. rella5
Well actually the 1st communication I got was from a CA- NCI (Nationwide) but when I DV'd them I got the validation straight from Discover - unless NCI can also use Discover's letterhead and contact info- also the letter from Disc. instructs me to pay them (within 30 days of course). Since then I have heard nothing from NCI at all. Disc. has already CO'd the acct.
