Miztiki
How is it possible for two different collection agencies to collect on the same debt? I'm assuming they both bought it from the same source? Is it legal for the person they bought the debt from to duplicte it and sell it to more than one CA? An example would be, CA#1 purchases the debt and tries to collect unsuccessfully from you then contracts with CA#2 to collect. In this case, CA#1 still owns the debt and CA#2 can also report on behalf of CA#1. Now, if CA#1 sells the debt as noncollectable, they must delete. Miztiki
Ok, but how can two unrelated CA's collect on the same debt at the same time? Both seemed to purchase the debt around the same time (couple months ago), so I wonder if the entity they purchased it from duplicated the debt. No one has ever tried to collect on this debt because the OC said nothing was due 10 years ago. Both CA's are showing the same DOLA which is false obviously, so all I can think of is that the entity they bought it from changed the DOLA. Dispute it with the CRA's as obsolete. If they verify it, they are in violation of reaging at which time you can ITS and follow through with it. Miztiki
Because if these two CA's bought the debt with false information already on there, they are unaware of the fact that they are attempting to collect on a debt that is uncollectable. As far as they know, it's a legit debt. This is wasting my time, their time, and impacting my credit score. I'd like to have the problem resolved completely so that it doesn't pop up in the future with any other CA's. That may mean contacting the entity they bought the debt from.So do you know the answer to my question? I don't know how CA's go about buying and selling debt portfolios. Can a debt purchaser duplicate a debt and sell it to multiple CA's?
