isislc
Crown Jewelers does not require a credit check but they do ask for a down payment on any purchases and report right away to the CRAs. I think I was around 525 in my CRs when I applied for First Premier. They are actually pretty easy to get since they slam you with the fees right away. The only benefit I got from that is that I only pay a 9.9% rate on all credit transactions and still have a grace period before I'm charged. Slow Eddie
You don't want First Premier. Try Household or Orchard first if you havent been delinquent with them in the past. First Premier slams you with all kinds of BS fees up front. HH and OB (same people) just get you on the annual fee.Eddie
razr
I'd suggest a secured card over First Premier. You can use the money that you would pay in fees for security.-r
lovebug5
As said above, CJ does not require a credit check to get an account...So it's a good idea, in my opinion, since they're there for a purpose and definitely help people out...And as for OB cards as mentioned below, they are incredibly particular (at least in my case) if you have had an account with them before. They denied me, post-BK, for an OB card with the reasoning of..."You already have the maximum number of accounts allowed with HSBC."Which is funny, because the only accounts that I had with HSBC/OB were pre-BK and were nearly perfect. brokemommy
I agree with Slow Eddie, First Premier is horrible- I learned the hard way. You should get Crown first, since they don't check credit, they just verify your employment and telephone numbers. Then you should try Orchard/HSBC. I found them to be very forgiving. I had 3 HSBC credit card chargeoffs with zero balances showing and a car repo with Household and they still gave me an unsecured credit card last year. Nascar3
I agree that First Premier is horrible with their upfront fees, but depending on what your credit score is it might be worth it. DH has credit scored in the LOW 500's. He was denied a regular HSBC card, but approved for a secured card. As far as First Premier, they approved him. I'm thinking the original fees were in the $175 dollar range, but if you're just looking to make a good TL, there ya go.

myscoresawful
*shrugs*I have a first premier card and never paid fees like that upfront. My score was in the low to mid 500s with a few collections and a charge off on it. I think I did pay something like $49.95 that was billed to the card and a $350.00 limit, so the card came to me with $300 available credit on it. That was a couple of years ago and maybe they've had to change it since then.Orchard, same thing, only I ended up cancelling my orchard card before I knew cancelling credit cards could be (and was in my case) a bad idea. I really wouldn't reopen it, though ..I was lied to by one of their customer service reps about something and it just didn't sit well with me after that.Crown Jewelers...most of us have those, and they don't check your credit report and they do report your balance after you send your downpayment for your first order. Their credit limits are $500, $1000 and $1500. If you buy something less than $500, then $500 will be your credit score....between $501 and $1000, your credit limit will be reported as $1000, etc.Although, I did read a post on here recently where someone had their credit score go up and the only change they saw was that CJ had stopped reporting their account after a short period of inactivity. (she paid her account off and after not charging anything again, they stopped reporting). I'm waiting to see if they do that to me.

lovebug5
do they report monthly to the 3 major credit bureaus?First off, I have a question for you: Did you apply for the Target card with your current scores? I've heard that Target cards are actually hard to get...Hmm.As for other companies like the publishing one mentioned above, I've been really hesitant to involve myself with them. Especially the ones which provide you a catalog of items to order after you pay their fee of $200-$300, that claim to report a $6,000 TL to the CRA's. I've heard horror stories about these places, so I've stayed away. But I'm interested in hearing about anyone else's experiences.
