chewba1
I really need some advice on how to handle charge offs and write offs. Due to illness and other crisis' our money went to necessities only and I have quite a few charged off credit cards on my credit report and a ton of co's hounding me.(last payments on all were jan/feb 2006). DV'd many months ago but didn't follow through with anything. Now, my question is how do you go about paying off these guys for a lesser amount a couple at a time and still keep the others at bay while you work your way through it. Has anyone had this experience before and does anyone have any suggestions? I have noticed that from the originial ca they went to co and now a lot are lawyer letters and phone calls. I did notice on one of the stickys that you can start with the accounts that are late and still with the original creditors and then go from there. Is that the way to go???? I am really worried about all the LAWYERS coming after me now.
newbie7069
I moved this the Collections Forum rather than Obtaining Credit, as it seemed more applicable here.
newbie7069
In order to help you more effectively, we really are going to need some more information. Like who is currently sending you collection letters/calling, how much you owe, who the original creditors are, when your last payments were, etc.

Sears, Target, Lowes, Capital One, etc etc. Originally the balances weren't as high but between interest and charges they are over the top. My husband & I now are back to work but are still not financially stable enough to handle them all or even to pay off one completely. I am afraid that before we pay these all off we will be sued by some of these lawyers and get judgments. What I was wondering is how do you go about getting them to lower the desired amount so you can pay it off and fix your credit. Also, if you claiming bankruptcy at this time would make a difference. Anyone out there have any suggestions?????
