WickeDay
So, I've read that utility companies report to your credit if you owe, but if I move into my new place, open utilities in my name and pay them on time and such, do they report that as good??? CleverCynic
Nope. Only lenders report.
WickeDay
It seems like I should get a pat on the back for not taking out loans in the first place, but, no! And, it seems like utility companie's are lenders! After all, you use their services, then they bill you, and then you pay. Sorry, just venting. jq26
Not always true. It must depend on the utility company. The gas company on my rental in Philadelphia reports every single month. It is noted UTILITY and is considered an installment account. The electric company does not report. The highest monthly bill that I have had so far is reported as my credit limit. I suppose if I get a high bill one month that exceeds the "credit limit" that will tank my FICO due to 100% utilization. (maybe this is part of the reason my TU FICO has dropped 80 points since taking possession of the rental in April). On my primary residence just outside Philly, I am not sure who reports what. My wife's name is on the utilities. If I recall, the gas company out there reports monthly as well. I think it showed up in our dti when we were considering buying another house. WickeDay
I guess I'll find out once I move in and turn everything on. I know I'll be responsible and pay them on time, so hopefully someone reports. Maybe the wireless or cable company at least.
Ahntara
You said it yourself..."...use their services, then they bill you, and then you pay..."Perfect description of paying for a service, which is not credit. Service providers don't lend money to their customers.
