Bodhi
I have an old debt with a utility company showing as a collection on my CR. It is scheduled to come off early next year, and I have had no luck removing it from my CR. It is beyond the SOL in my state, but that is not the point, it appears to be an account I neglected to shut off with old roommates that never paid it. Either way, it needs to be taken care of.I was finally able to talk to the OC today, and they agreed to accept payment in full saying that I did not have to deal with the CA.What I am asking is simple:If I pay the OC, how do I get this removed from my CR collections area and not show up? OR, do I call the CA and offer to settle in full if they provide a letter stating it will be removed from the CR in entirety upon payment?
Textoy
Use the PFD letter with OC. If they did not sell the debt, then they still own it (only assigned to CA) and can instruct the CA to remove it from your report. If the CA owns the debt (JDB), then the OC will be ripping you off because they would not own the debt anymore and cannot tell the CA to delete. Bodhi
I am going to write the OC and ask them who owns the debt? Specifically whether they have sold it or just assigned it to the CA.
