I had a CA call me regarding my 3 yr old Sprint bill. He wanted to know why I didnt pay it, so I explained to him I had canceled the service due to Sprint not living up to their agreements. Service never worked and the last month they doubled billed me! They were suppose to remove monies charged for services that didnt work, I paid the $83.00 and they deducted the 3 month charges in December 2003 then in January 2004 they added it all back on, thats when I canceled with them. Now this CA person says I'll make an settlement offer when I told him I would only pay $83.00, he said he couldnt take less than $190.00, I said I dont have that amount, he said I'll let you pay in 3 payments of $63.00, I said ok but ONLY if its not reported on my credit report, he said it hasnt yet but it was about to be reported. I told him I want this in writing so he mailed me out the offer, nothing mentions not reporting it on my credit report! Now I have checked all three reports and have discovered its already been reported on Experian only. I am planning on buying a new truck in December or January, I dont want my scores going any lower, my highest score to date is 640 TransUnion. what do I do? ignore it? since its already on my report? Please somebody help!

Well, first mistake you made is talking about your persoanl affairs to a stranger on the phone, how do you even know he was a collector?

Second mistake, you admitted to him you were the owner of the debt in question.

The best thing for you to determine is, if the debt still belongs to the OC or has it already been sold.

If it still belongs to the OC, and the OC just hired the CA to collect on the debt. I would DV the CA, sometimes this may work in your favor, where the CA may just drop it, and send it back to the OC, there bye giving you an opportunity to deal with the CA,

Did you even try to reach out to the CA and see what they reply?

Is the CA reporting this on your Credit Reports ?

went through the same thing with them myself. Afni had mine.

Only had service for 13 days and it never woorked. Could not make

a phone call or recieve. Cancelled and the wanted to charge me

200.00 something for first months bill and cancellation fee.

H to the no!!!! Talk to a manager and agreed on a lower amount and to just send me the bill. Never recieved a bill and until I saw it on my credit rept.

I forgot about it. Look just call sprint and talk to someone there about it.

I called and we agreed on 112.00 to clear it. Hope they can work

with you the way they worked with me. If they have no info ask the

CA(which I did and they validated and I went right back to sprint-

because sprint couldnt find the account but could with the info I got from the CA- and paid it) Good luck

Oh yes -get a recipt to prove proof of payment and to whom. As you have never dealt with these CA peaple

Sprint was terrible! but I still have my last statement from that December, with who I spoke with and the amount he was deducting and what my next amount due would be and when. Amazing I kept it this long. I will contact Sprint and see if they will take less, its been on my Equifax credit report which has the worst score of the three reports. Thanks for your advice!!

:-( well I didnt really give him any personal information, and I didnt really say I was me but aside from that you're right! he just caught me off guard, I wasnt expecting that and man did I totally forget everything Id read about dealing with CA. This collections has been on my Equifax report for a few years now so he lied to me when he said it was about to be reported, I will say he was very very smooth, I usually hang up whenever its a collector or someone in those regards but he was good, but not good enough because I told him I would call him back the next morning, I didnt, I wanted to check my credit report make sure it wasnt there first, which it was so now , balls back in my court, I dont want it to be reported to any of the other CB. My scores cant go down any further, so Im gonna use some of the suggestions Ive been given and speak with Sprint, see if they will negotiate for a lesser amount, maybe they will.

thanks for the help. :)++

If you have all the information from the individual you talked to at Sprint. I'd send a letter back to said CA citing the specifics and that you intend on suing them if it is not removed. If you have data on who you talked with and what they promised, you are in far better shape then some knucklehead making cold calls at a CA.
