SnowSchu
I first want to say that I did read the medical sticky. To be honest I read it twice and I was a bit confused. So in hopes of not looking too stupid I have a quesiton. My husband has a handful of years old medical collections on his credit report. Do I need to or can I send them a verification request letter? Is it pointless to try and have them deleted? Should I just find them all and pay them? Any and all ideas opinions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks
isislc
Do I need to or can I send them a verification request letter? Is it pointless to try and have them deleted? Should I just find them all and pay them? Any and all ideas opinions would be greatly appreciated!Thanks1) Nope, first try to dispute with the CRAs as "not mine" and see what comes back. Some may delete and if not, you may get a letter from the CA in which case you can then DV the debt.2) If they don't delete when you first dispute with the CRAs as not mine and they are small enough that won't hurt to pay off, send them a PFD letter. Those have a 50/50 success rate at actually being deleted.3) Don't ever just pay a CA off just to get rid of the debt. It will hurt your score more than if you hadn't paid the debt and why throw away the money if you don't need to.Hope this helps.
SnowSchu
Thanks I really appreciate your input!I have to admit... I'm not sure what a few things stand for....CRA= credit report agency ????DV= debt validating ????PFD= Again thanks, I really appreciate it! lavs412
PFD=Pay for DeletionThis is partly what Isisic means when she says don't just pay them. Negotiate with them, that you will pay xxxxx amount, in return they delete the TL (tradeline). You go about this by sending them a letter (PFD). There are many examples on the board....search for PFD....................First Dispute the CRA and DV the CA......... wait for the response....then decide on the PFDGood Luck.................... Ahntara
With medical CA's: You always want to try to pay the service provider in exchange for their withdrawal of the accounts back from the CA. (should you decide to pay...)
