How 2 get title to charged off car?

I have two vehicles that have been charged off but not reposessed by the original creditor. I have moved to a new state and need duplicate titles in order to register them. I am still driving the vehicles as they are worth less than what I owe and the creditor doesn't want them back.

Does anyone know how to go about getting the titles? Do I contact the original finance company or the collector who currently holds the debt? Do I have to pay them off first? Thanks, this is my first post.

A title is just that......it only means that you own the car, with a discription and vin, this has nothing to do with the lein from the bank though it will show who the lein holder is.

Request a duplicate from the state you left, tell them you lost it....some states charge a measly fee , but once you register it in your new state they could track it down very easily if they decide to repo.

As far as releasing the lein, I say good luck unless the debt was sold, then it should release the lein as the OC no longer would hold intrest.

I have never seen a JDB try and repo, but that does not mean it hasnt happened.

Thank You! When you say request it from the state, who / which agency do I request from? Dept of Motor vehicles?

The cars were charged off by the OC and sold to a CA they have a current address and know where we are, but I have seen no indication they want to repo. Can a CA repo? If they intend to repo, they have to send a notification / written intent to repo don't they? Also, newbie question, whats a JDB? Thanks for the help.
