LNY
Going over your limit is defaulting on the terms of your agreement. I'm afraid they had every right to do what they did, whether it was $13 or $1300. But you know what? It doesn't have to affect you. If you don't keep a balance--or keep a really, really low one so they're not tempted to close you down for inactivity--they don't have to be allowed to bleed you dry.Always remember that the interest rate is only an issue when you carry a significant balance. Other than that, we're talking pennies.Just keep your nose clean for the next 6 months, then call and remind them. Right now, if you have a large balance (more than a couple of hundred), consider a balance transfer to another card, if you can get one with no or low fee. razr
Shop for another card and transfer the balance if you can, or go to some place like Beneficial and get a loan.-r
isislc
LNY is right, just keep it low. That's what I do with my cards and I'm about 25% on a couple of them.

I am just stunned...Just remember-it doesn't matter that you've been a good consumer in the past, they just wait for folks to make ONE false move and than they go for the throat. I'd do ahead and tranfer balances. I'm sorry, I understand that if one goes over their balance that the company has the right to exercise their option to up your interest rate, however-it doesn't mean they HAVE to, especially when that person has otherwise always been an exemplary consumer. There is NO loyalty anymore. There are fifteen different ways to punish someone.I'd just transfer the balance and chalk up to learning something valuable....nobody cares about my butt until I mess up...by 13.00.Elyse
tdhssbn
Juniper is famous for rate jacking. I went over my limit by $3 and some change because of finance charges and had the same thing happen. I just did a balance transfer to a different card(NFCU) and now I don't bother using it except for gas buys just to keep it active.

They're not required to be soft and kind and loyal and understanding and forgiving when we screw up. We have a due date. If we don't pay on time, we get charged a late fee. We have a credit limit. If we go over that limit, we get ratejacked and/or charged an overlimit fee. The fact remains that we screwed up. They're not being "mean." It's not personal, it's business. All we can do is damage control, and if we're in a position to... take our business elsewhere. That's not being "mean" either. They're not our friends and family. gravelgirl66
I have no other cards with high enough CL to do a balance transfer. I really appreciate all the ideas though... I feel sick to my stomach even looking at that card now. I know I messed up... but I thought, hey I have never been late a great customer, and it was quite a few months ago, i never even thought any more about it... I guess I will have to suck it up, and just pay it off as soon as i can... Not that it couldnt come at a worse time, when i have Xmas coming... Man... Its aggreviating... 5 steps forward.... 20 steps back....
