momof5
Speaking of opting out.....We always advise this because of dormant CAs watching for new activity, etc....Curious thing that I was pondering....To get *b on EQ, one needed to have about 145 hard and soft INQs. (My experience anyway and YES I would count them.) EQ has fixed any TC or TC related INQs at 82. Wont go up, it just rolls off the oldest TC INQ. Since I opted out a year and a half ago, those old softs are aging off. I am down to 132 INQs and can't get it higher. I was thinking of opting in to let these offers add softs to get to *b again. (I have 2 fairly new INQs from USAA.)Opinions anyone?
willingtocope
First, read the term and conditions of the OptOutPreScreen site. They can pass your info on to their "affliates"....may not be what you want to happen.Second, as far a the "b" word...its my understanding that all inquiries are required by law to stay on your reports for two years. The law doesn't say anything about "number of inquiries"...it simple states a time period. The law also doesn't say anything about the number of inquiries the CRAs have to show you online. Therefore, in my opinion, what your seeing with "145" or "132" inquiries is simply the number they have allotted space for in their web pages...it doesn't actually reflect the number of inquires on your reports. momof5
willing,I counted my inqs on EQ's site because they display a considerable amount. EVERY TIME the softs + hards hit 145, my *b would begin. I would never *b at less. (been counting for a couple of years and every time I got new inqs I would start pulling regularly to get my points back.... That is where the numbers come from. YES, I know that they stay for 2 yrs....that is why some of my softs are departing...they are hitting the 2 yr point. Because I opted out, I am not getting ANY new softs that are not related to my pulling or AR from current CCs. That is why the # I see is dropping. I figured the only way to get the counts up is to allow for some other inqs to hit...(soft, of course)
willingtocope
I honestly don't know the answer to this but...if the law requires all inquirys to stay on your reports for 2 years...how many does a creditor see when they pull your EQ reports? merkurfan
Obviously they only see the hards. But I have to wonder if they don't get a total count of the softs. I got turned down by target for to many INQ's on my TU report. The day they pulled I only had one hard pull, targets. So in reality when they pulled my TU the only inq's I had where soft. And I am sure there are 100's as I have been a daily puller for almost a year.Either that or taget just pulled that out of their denial reasons and threw it my way. idealcap
So is it a good idea to go register at optoutprescreen.com or not? I've heard that it can improve someones score by as much as 25 points. True or False?
