turmanator
A couple of weeks ago I mentioned I got a call from Portfolio Revovery abouta Cap 1 bill that I owe $1,200.00 on. The last activity was 1999. I told the that Texas SOL was 4 years, and I was not going to pay. It is (obviuosly) noton my Credit Reports. I also told them to stop calling and that I was going to send a C&D. Anyways, I have Fraud Alert set on my stuff, and saw a new Inquriy entry on TU. I checked it out and it showed Portfolio Recovery made and inquiry last week. The best part is, that under Permissable Purpose for inquriy was, in CAPITAL letters no less, the word COLLECTION. What turds. Can I remove it since I did not authorize it, and if so, how? Also, I am trying to get the account number so I can send the C&D. This almost seems like haraassment. DucknCover
This sure sounds like something PR would do. They're one of the worst I've dealt with. If I'm wrong, somebody can correct me.... but since SOL doesn't actually extingush the debt they probably had permissable purpose. Your best bet is to dispute with the CRA on the grounds that it's not your account (play dumb) and PR did a hard pull as a "fishing expedition" with no proof the account was ever yours. myscoresawful
if the DOLA was 1999, I am assuming the debt is atleast 7 years old and SOL or not, it is obsolete? You might want to send them a FOAD CMRRR letter pointing this out. Ahntara
"...obsolete..."Not unless the OP's state has a Statute of Repose. The debt may be beyond RP and SOL, but it can still worked. Collection efforts are just 'toothless' because reporting and sueing are (theoretically) not applicable. Many people recommend DV, FOAD or C&D on old debts, but a simple dispute works just as well. red1gtrubodsm
Portfolio recovery is very shady, but not very smart. I had a debt for a past phone bill. I called them up and paid it in an attemp to clear my report a bit. The same day i paid them the $328 they were looking for, I disputed on all 3 cra's. It came back "settled for less than full balance". wich was completely inacurrate. I paid the full showing balance on my CR.I sent a letter of dispute again to the cra's with proof they had lied on their initial validation on the amount paid. Deleted on all 3!! not just updated to "paid in full". They can be brought down, just wait for them to make their mistake
Amerikaner83
I told them to FOAD over the phone and they did.
