Ok as some of you may know i used to be in the Louisiana National Guard. I was deployed to the Hurricane Katrina and Rita relief effort while attending college mid semester. I recieve the Active Duty G.I Bill every month that im enrolled as a full time student in the amount of close to 1300.00. When i was deployed my Sgt told me not to stop collecting my GI BIll even though i wasnt at school because we didnt know how long we were goin to be activated. I kept drawing this money because my school was paid for already by just being in the Nat Guard, but i used my GI Bill money for living expenses...rent, food, etc. Well, i wasnt released off of deployment until after the semester finished. I was told by the Dept of Treasury that i owed them all the money that was given to me that semester because i didnt attend. Ok, my bad for listening to the dumbass sgt! I paid them back, before i found this site, and now i have a PAID/collections line of my report. Is there any way i can get this fixed or at least "upgraded" because im sure its hurting my score? Im thinking since i was doing a good thing by helping people i shouldnt have this negative mark on my report. Since it is the government will it be harder to fix? Thanks in advance to all that read this.

That's a little different then the University, however you still might want to use the Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Civil Relief Act defense and see were it gets you. You mention meeting with the JAG, have them work on this.

The problem with the Dept. of Treasurey is there not held accountable to the same laws that most civi's are.

You can DV your trade lines and see what happens. When they verify you send the DOT letters and use the Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Civil Relief as your defense. Can't hurt.

Good luck
