ymcinnis29
Help! I just received a letter in the mail from a collection agency. The debt is from a credit card I had in college 10 years ago. The original debt is not even on my credit report anymore. How can they do this? And how can I stop it? I am new to this site, I have been working on my credit for over a year now and don't need old debt coming back up. What can I do?ymcinns29
rmuse00
It is out of SOL. So they are SOL. Send letter to CA letting them know the debt is time-barred and they should stop trying to collect. I understand there are some states that allow collection of time-barred debts but I don't think SC is one of them. Reconfirm that with your state SOL and if it is in fact 3 years write them an "FOAD" letter. Search "FOAD" on this forum and you can get ideas! If these people start calling whatever you do DO NOT speak to them on the phone and send out that letter CMRRR!
