The good and the weird (Target and WalMart, respectively)

Recommended Posts

The hub has had a Target card for... not too long, I guess a year or so, and they finally offered him a Target Visa - it finally came in the mail, too. $1,000 limit and a rate of 19%, so not a great rate, but this is a major step up in his credit rebuilding.

I have had a Sam's Club card since 2004 with a perfect record and they raised my limit, upon my request, 4 or 5 months ago. Since GE Money Bank services the Sam's card and the WalMart card, I applied for WalMart and/or WalMart Discover online. I thought I had the perfect reference through my Sam's card.

They didn't even have to send me a paper letter, but rather an e-mail a day or two later saying I was denied because "unable to verify identity" and they also pulled an Equifax report, which I confirmed.

WTF?!?!?! My name has not changed. They pulled my report. I've been their customer for 3+ years, in perfect standing.

I printed and sent their rejection letter back to them, to the address provided, and included a letter explaining the situation and giving my Sam's Club Credit account number. We'll see what comes of it. I have no question - just wanted to share a weird experience.

This has been a common phenomenon with recent GEMB applications. Many of us have had the same experience. Eventually someone will tell you that your score was too low and identity has nothing to do with it. You have to call walmart cs and ask for "fraud" to get to a GEMB rep.

Let us know how it goes.

My experience with Wal-Mart, Wal-Mart or who ever holds there credit, has a "LIST" even if you have not had credit with them before they will instantly deny you?

I cannot say why....I even worked at Wal-Mart for over 3 years and I could not cash a personnel check, I could cash my payroll check and use debit card and everything else.

When I called to find out why, I was informed tht I was on a list....I treid to find out what list this was and I could not get anywhere.....
