Seahorse says Hi!

Recommended Posts

Hi Folks. :)++

I'm from over the pond, in Scotland. So a lot of what is discussed here in not immediately relevant to the United Kingdom.

However, I am sure we have a lot in common, so I thought I'd take this opportunity to come along and see how you guys deal with debt issues. Particularly in light of the sub-prime mortgage fiasco that we have been hearing so much about. I'm sure a similar disaster can't be too far behind for us.

Thanks for the welcome folks.

I suppose I could start with a quick intro.

There seems to be a greater awareness in the UK about consumer rights, especially in regard to debts. There are a number of sites offering advice just now, similar to this one here. So it's good to know that others are standing up for themselves over in the US too.

I'm not sure if links to personal sites are allowed, so unless advised otherwise, I'll keep the link to my blog off forum. But if anyone wants to have a read about my battle with one particular debt purchasing company, please feel free to PM me. It's a long read, as i've been battling with this lot for nearly a year now. But I think it gives a fairly typical example of how we get treated over in the UK.

(By the way, I'm stuck with you "crazy Americans" for a while yet... I'm working off New Orleans in the Gulf of Mexico just now ;))

OK, as I've been asked, and I see Miracle Jen has a link to her blog in her signature so I assume it's OK, here we go. The background to this is, I had a credit card, which supposedly defaulted over a year ago. The final amount was actually made up of unlawful penalty charges (does that happen here too?) so as far as I'm concerned, I didn't owe any money. But the debt was sold on to a company called Cabot Financial (UK) Limited who refuse to be sensible. So I decided to blog my dealings with them.

Enjoy...

That is encouraging Seahorse. I got started blogging about collection

agencies over a year ago and now I am a full time blogger and SEO due

to what I learned back then.

There are more ways to skin a cat. With consumers doing more research

online before making decisions about companies and products the Internet

provides a great opportunity to invoke change, inform others and make money

along the way.

I have made mistakes in my journey and have made a lot of money along the

way using blogs when dealing with collection agencies or other unscrupulous

companies. Not only can they give consumers a way to vent their

frustrations about unethical practices but pick up some extra cash along

the way. I have blogs making nothing, pennies and thousands per month.

However it is enough to no longer need a JOB (Just Over Broke) and I answer

to only myself and my advertisers.

What is sad is some of the people that have been dedicated to blogging

about their experiences have done some highly unethical things under the

guise of getting the word out and now wonder why they are treated like a

phoria. Oh well that is a blog post anyway not a forum contribution!!

Paul
