cc1015
Hi Everyone,I sent my DV letter to CA back at the beginning of Nov and they received and signed for 5 days later. I got a letter from the CA yesterday telling me they would be removing the debt they are trying to collect from the 3 credit bureaus(I checked the credit bureaus previously and never saw this CA listed). They said the original creditor (Citi) could still list this debt with the credit bureaus. I doubt they will because it is past the SOL for reporting to the bureaus. My question is this(?)-the CA did not validate the debt with me and they did not say whether they would continue to pursue collection, just that they would be removing from the credit bureaus and I could contact the 3 credit bureaus for further info. Not sure what to think-anyone have any ideas, comments about whether they will continue to pursue this and what I should be doing? Thanks again to everyone for the kind help!! VonAngel (aka EarthAngel)
(My advice is based on the assumption that you have followed the DV process accordingly.) Send them a follow up letter informing them that since they have failed to provide validation to you...you are requesting that they cease all collection activity, including the removal of the TL (as they agreed to do). They may very well have no intention on continuing to attempt collection, but you want to make sure your bases are covered.
lovebug5
Agreed. You never want to leave a window open that a slimy CA or JDB could eventually climb through. Get everything you need in writing!

VonAngel (aka EarthAngel)
Thank you!! how long should I wait before contacting them? do they have 30 days after signing for the DV letter to follow up?You don't need to wait another 30 days to follow up, especially since they've responded to your first request already. merkurfan
Personally, I'd file their letter and leave it at that. They are saying basically, we can't validate. And further letters from them until they do validate will be violations. I see no need to fire off another letter to remind them you are still around. They gave you want you wanted removal of the debt from your reports if it was ever there. And they are likely going to kick it back to citi if they still own it.
